Boston city workers find rat infestation in Fenway

Friday August 10, 2012

BOSTON (AP) - Boston city inspectors have found more than 100 rats living in two buildings in the city's Fenway neighborhood.

The Boston Globe reports that Boston Mayor Thomas Menino visited the area Thursday and said the infestation won't be tolerated.

The rats had dug more dozens of burrows and were concentrated in an alley between the two buildings.

City inspectors found the infestation after receiving numerous complaints from residents. One city official tells The Globe he saw dozens of rats running in packs, fighting and even crawling over his shoes.

The city has threatened to fine the property owners if they don't eliminate the infestation.
