Boston supermarket closed after evidence of mice found
BOSTON >> A Boston supermarket has been closed until further notice after city inspectors found dead mice and mouse droppings inside.
The Stop & Shop in the city's Roxbury neighborhood was inspected Friday after a customer reported seeing a mouse.
Inspectional Services Commissioner William Christopher closed the store Monday when city workers returned and found that the rodent problem had not been resolved. Evidence of mice was found on shelves, in the stockroom and near the bakery, where a bread bag appears to have been gnawed through.
He says no signs of mice were found when the store was inspected three weeks ago.
Stop & Shop in a statement apologized for the inconvenience and said it was working to resolve the problem. The company blamed the rodents on a nearby construction site.
