Boston teen denies murder charges tied to Salem man's death

SALEM >> A 19-year-old Boston man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he fatally shot a Salem man last month.

Xavier Collazo pleaded not guilty Thursday in Salem District Court to charges of first-degree murder stemming from the March 31 death of 27-year-old Benjamin Magee.

Magee's body was found in an alleyway outside a home on Salem's Park Street. Police said at the time of Magee's death that he and Collazo were involved in some sort of altercation.

Prosecutors say Collazo fled the state after the shooting. Collazo was apprehended on April 13 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Judge William Fitzpatrick ordered Collazo held without bail while he awaits a probable cause hearing scheduled for June 3.

Collazo's attorney kept his client hidden during proceedings because of witness identification issues.
