Boy injured in fall from ski lift at Bousquet
PITTSFIELD -- A 10-year-old boy reportedly was injured at Bousquet Ski Area after he fell 20 feet off a ski lift around 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to authorities.
Pittsfield Police and Fire Department officials said the Framingham boy experienced shoulder and hip pain, and he was found alert and concious when they arrived. He had been wearing a ski helmet at the time and he was taken to Berkshire Medical Center afterward.
Pittsfield Fire Department and Pittsfield Police did not have an update about the boy's condition available later in the day.
Bousquet Ski Area owner Sherry Roberts said she heard from employees that the boy fell off the lift shortly after loading himself because he was inadequately seated.
"He had just loaded himself on the chair; he didn't get himself in place, he slid off, and he [was hanging from the side] before he let go," Roberts said.
Pittsfield Police Officer Darren Derby said the boy fell on his feet first and then his skis popped off.
"It's a mishap," Derby said. "It did not happen that far from the beginning [of the lift]."
