Bulldogs fall in regionals

Sunday August 5, 2012

NORTON -- It was a tough way for the Lanesborough Bulldogs to begin the Cal Ripken 11-U New England tournament.

The Bulldogs outhit Maine 9-8, but the visitors from Northern New England had one more run at the end of the game, beating Lanesborough 6-5 on Saturday.

With the loss, the Bulldogs move on to play the loser of Saturday's game between the hosts and Concord (N.H.). That game was not completed at press time.

Phil Guest reached base three times for Lanesborough, scoring one run and driving in another. He had a single and a double.

Lanesborough fell behind 2-0 after a half-inning, but the Bulldogs roared back with three runs in the home first. Thomas Fraser's two-run single was the key blow of the inning and Carter Parker walked in a run.

Maine took the lead for keeps in the fourth inning on Hunter Labossiere's RBI single.

The Bulldogs got an RBI single from Guest in the bottom of the sixth inning, but they could not score the tying run.

Catherine Worthington helped the Lanesborough cause with a two-hit afternoon.
