MassDevelopment adds specialist in Western Mass.

Julie Cowan has joined MassDevelopment as the agency's vice president for business development in Western Massachusetts. She will be based in Springfield, and travel throughout the region's four counties.

Prior to joining MassDevelopment, Cowan served as chief development officer at Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech and as vice president of commercial lending at TD Bank. At TD, Cowan worked on with MassDevelopment on obtaining bonds for Iredale Mineral Cosmetics in Great Barrington, and for the Berkshire Arts & Technology Charter Public School in Adams.

Pittsfield Coop Bank honors Crosby Elementary students

The Pittsfield Cooperative Bank and Crosby Elementary School recently honored students who participated in the Crosby Summer Reading Project.

All participants were honored at a September school assembly and will earn extra recess for their hard work and dedication. Classroom winners received gift cards to Barnes & Noble that were provided by the Pittsfield Cooperative Bank.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has made federal economic injury disaster loans available to numerous entities in Berkshire, Hampden and Worcester counties due to the drought.

Small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most nonprofit organizations of all sizes are eligible.
