AIM business confidence index drops again in July

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts Business Confidence Index fell one point in July to 55.1, leaving it four points lower than in July 2015.

The BCI has now declined in three of the last four months, but has remained over the 50 mark that denotes an overall positive economic outlook.

Optimism dimmed across the board on employment, the state economy and employers' outlook on their own companies.

McKennon to speak at IEEE dinner meeting Aug. 11

The Berkshire Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers will hold a Computer and Control Chapter dinner meeting on Thursday, Aug. 11 at the Cork'N Hearth Restaurant on Route 20.

Justin McKennon of Pittsfield, a senior electrical engineer for NTS Lightning Technologies, will present "High Performance GPU Computing." Cocktails take place at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7, then the presentation.

Prices: IEEE members, $22; IEEE members and one guest, $20; non-members, $44; non-members and one guest, $40. Those who attend the presentation and don't eat dinner will be admitted free. The deadline for reservations is Monday, Aug. 8.
