BCREB presents workforce development awards

The Berkshire County Regional Employment Board recently presented workforce development awards to three area individuals and one business.

At BCREB's quarterly meeting in Pittsfield, Barbara Bond, a career counselor at the BerkshireWorks Career Center, was honored for her tireless work in assisting dislocated workers. A plaque will also be provided to Harbor Freight Tools for hiring the long-term unemployed.

Keandre Gardner, a McCann Tech student who worked at the North Adams Public School's 21st Century after school program, and 21st century program coordinator Noella Carlow received awards at a meeting in North Adams.

Berkshire lodging, restaurants receive high AAA ratings

Wheatleigh in Lenox is one of 49 hotels in Massachusetts that have received AAA's highest recognition for quality and service — the 2016 AAA Five or Four Diamond Award.

Meanwhile, Wheatleigh's dining room has received a Five Diamond Award from AAA. Only three restaurants in Massachusetts, and 64 throughout North America and the Caribbean have received this designation for 2016.

The Old Inn on the Green in New Marlborough has received a Four Diamond rating for 2016 from AAA in the restaurant category.

Educational program nominated for national award

"Achieving Regional Reach: The 413 STEM Ready Program", conducted at both the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Berkshire Community College was selected as one of 10 finalists in the workforce development category of the 2016 Bellwhether Awards.

The STEM program prepared students during the summers of 2014 and 2015,
