BerkShares holding anniversary; annual meeting

BerkShares will hold its 10th Anniversary Party on Friday. Sept. 23 at the Prairie Whale, 178 Main St. in Great Barrington. The hours are 6 to 11 p.m. The suggested donation is 5-20 BerkShares or dollars.

The deadline to renew membership in the BerkShares program is also on that date.

BerkShares will hold its annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the First Congregational Church in Great Barrington.

Those seeking to run for a position on the Board of Trustees would submit their request along with their membership dues.

Foreclosures up locally, but down at state level

Foreclosure petitions in Berkshire County increased 50 percent in July compared to the same month in 2015, but dropped in Massachusetts, ending 28 months of consecutive percentage increases at the state level.

In the Berkshires, lenders filed 21 petitions to foreclose in July, seven more than the 14 that were filed in July 2015, according to the Warren Group of Boston, which tracks state real estate transactions. Year-to-date, foreclosure petitions in the Berkshires are up 52 percent.

Statewide, foreclosure petitions dropped 1.1 percent in July from the same month last year, although they have increased 20.2 percent year-to-date. The filing of petitions marks the first step in the foreclosure process.
