Berkshire AHEC's Dargie receives state honor

Sheila Dargie, director of operations/human resources at Berkshire Area Health Education Center, has been recognized for her dedication in the health education field at the state level.

Dargie's career was recently highlighted in The Provider newspaper, the flagship publication for the Provider's Council. He career was highlight in the newspaper's "Saluting the Caring Force" segment.

Dargie, who was promoted to her current position in May 2014, has been instrumental in Berkshire AHEC's success for more than 15 years.

She started her career in 1998 as a part-time project assistant for a grant received from the Department of Public Health for the Berkshire Coalition to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, a program of Berkshire AHEC. She was promoted to office manager in 2006, before accepting her most recent position.

Lee Chamber elects board members, gives awards

The Lee Chamber of Commerce elected board members and gave out awards at its annual meeting on Nov. 16.

Returning board members elected to three-year terms are: Gloria Friedman (Applegate Inn); Wayne Harris, board treasurer (Trustco Bank); Paula Gangell-Miller (Lee Bank); and Joey Scapin (Lee Hardware).

New board members include, Jennifer O'Neil (Greylock Federal Credit Union); and Bart Collins (Southern State Auto Sales).

Onyx Speciality Papers was honored as Corporate Citizen of the Year; Ray Murray Inc. received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award; and RWs Towing/B-Safe Storage received the Lifetime Achievement Award,

Bruce Singer was named Volunteer of the Year for his work with the Chamber's annual Golf Open and as parade committee chair for Lee Founders Weekend.

Dentist completes laser training in California

Pittsfield periodontist Alan W. Metzger has successfully completed the LANAP Training Continuum for achievement of fellowship status in the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry which was given in Cerritos, Calif.Metzger has been a periodontist in Pittsfield since 1978. He practices with Dr. Michael Williams.
