Berkshire Gas' parent firm issues warning for scammers
Avangrid Inc., the parent company of the Berkshire Gas Co., is urging customers to be wary of scammers posing as utility company representatives or leaving bogus call back numbers.
So far the activity has only surfaced at Avangrid's three subsidiaries in Connecticut.
In recent weeks, those companies have received reports of scammers threatening to cut service unless the customer makes an immediate payment over the phone using a prepaid debit card.
To protect themselves, customers should check their account status, protect personal information and collect evidence, such as the name and number from a caller ID.
Customers should report the scam to the utility.
Dentist receives diplomate status in sleep medicine
Dr. J. Terrence Sinclair of Pittsfield was recently granted diplomate status in dental sleep medicine from the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine (ABCDSM).
The designation was achieved after testing, patient care studies, and hours of observation at Berkshire Medical Center's Sleep Disorder Clinic, and multiple continuing education courses that included a mini-residency in dental sleep medicine at Tufts University Dental School.
A graduate of Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, Sinclair practices general dentistry with a special interest in sleep apnea. He is also Invisalign certified. His office is located at 207 First St. in Pittsfield.
