Stop & Shop, Hannaford cleared to merge by AG's office

Following a review of a proposed merger between Stop & Shop and Hannaford supermarkets, Attorney General Maura Healey has announced terms of a settlement that will allow the transaction to move forward.

The settlement was also reviewed by attorneys generals in several other states.

The proposed merge combines Ahold, which owns Stop & Shop, and Hannaford owner Delhaize, the parent companies of multiple supermarket chains in the United States and Europe. The two companies are required to divest 81 of their stores nationwide to order to complete the merger. None of those markets are in the Berkshires.
