County unemployment increases slightly in December
The Berkshire County unemployment rate increased slightly in December to 5.6 percent, according to figures released on Tuesday by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
November's local jobless rate had been 5.3 percent. Although December's increase was minor, local unemployment has risen almost a full percentage point since August when it fell to 4.7 percent. State unemployment is 4.7 percent, slightly under the national jobless rate of 5.0.
Unemployment also increased slightly in the Great Barrington North Adams and Pittsfield labor market areas last month. The Pittsfield metropolitan area added 400 jobs in the 12 months ending in December.
Dentist to provide free dental care to Boston-area children
Pittsfield pediatric dentist Lisa Campagna Gamache is among more than 300 dental professionals who will provide free care to Boston-area children at the TeamSmile Clinic for Children at Yankee Dental Congress 2016 in Boston, New England's largest dental meeting.
Gamache and her colleagues will treat approximately 600 children at the two-day clinic on Jan. 28-29 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Gamache has been a pediatric dentist in Pittsfield for over 20 years. She is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
BYP holding event at Berkshire Museum on Feb. 5.
The Berkshire Young Professionals will present "Don't Feed The Animals, A BYP Bash with Art Zoo Galleries Gone Wild" on Feb. 5.
