Employer confidence surges in May, according to AIM Survey

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts Business Confidence Index rose 1.5 points in May to 57.7, the highest level since July 2015.

The reading was slightly higher than the 57.3 level posted a year ago and comfortably above the 50 mark that denotes and overall positive economic outloook.

HILLSDALE, N.Y.
Regional building supply firm expands operations

Ed Herrington Inc., a regional building supplier, has purchased the assets of Countrytown Marble & Tile in Hillsdale, N.Y. It will operate business at Countrytown's location at 5 East Hill Road off Route 23 in Hillsdale.

The new site is just down the road from Herrington's Stone & Masonry Center and the firm's Hillsdale Building Supplies Store. Herrington's has locations in Hillsdale, Hudson, Chatham and Millerton, N.Y.; Lakeville, Conn.; and Sheffield.

Judy Gardner the former owner of Countrytown Marble & Tile, had served the area since 1990.

BERKSHIRES
Engineering firm honored for N.A. solar power system

Tighe & Bond of Westfield has received a silver award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts for the the firm's work on the 3.5 megawatt North Adams E Street solar photovoltaic system.

The firm teamed with Borrego Solar Systems to develop the North Adams facility on top of the closed E Street landfill in North Adams. The new solar system is one of the largest of its kind in Western Massachusetts.

Tighe & Bond received its award recently at the 2016 Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge.

The company has worked on several Berkshire County projects.
