Employer confidence strengthens in March

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts Business Confidence Index rose 1.4 points to 55.6 points in March, its highest level since November and well above the 50 point mark that denotes a positive economic outlook.

The index for service companies and other non-manufacturers increased to 61.3, while the manufacturing index fell to 54.8, a drop of 7.1 points from its level in March 2015.

The AIM Index, based on a survey of state employers, has appeared monthly since July 1991. It has remained above 50 points since October 2013.

Young entrepreneurs to present business projects

Students from the "Entry to Entreprenuership" program will present their business plans to the public on Tuesday, April 12 at Dewey Hall, 91 Main St.

The event takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

BerkShares Inc. has offered Entry to Entrepreneurship, a 10-week business education experience for young people, for the second straight year. The students range in age from 13-23.

Locals to receive 2016 honors from state district of SBA

The Chamberlain Group of Great Barrington has been named 2016 Small Business Exporter of the Year by the Massachusetts District of the United States Small Business Administration.

Peter Rice, senior vice president of business banking for Berkshire Bank, has been named 2016 Financial Services Champion by the Massachusetts SBA.

The Chamberlain Group and Rice will be recognized with the state's other 2016 honorees at the Annual Small Business Weeks Awards Luncheon on May 4 in Westborough.
