Foreclosure petitions rise in Berkshires in March

The number of foreclosure petitions filed in Berkshire County rose significantly in March as 27 were filed compared to 13 in March 2015, an increase of 108 percent.

Year-to-date, the number of petitions in the Berkshires has jumped 46 percent with 188 filed this year compared to 129 during the first three months of 2015, according to the Warren Group of Boston, which tracks state real estate transaction.

The number of foreclosure auctions in the Berkshires has risen 43 percent between last month and March 2015, and by 45 percent so far this year,

However, the number of foreclosure deeds dropped 4 percent between last month and March 2015, and is up 5 percent so far this year. Deeds mark the final step in the foreclosure process.
