Leabs nominated for state Farm Bureau Award
Donald and Judy Leab, the owners of Ioka Valley Farm, have been recognized as Berkshire County nominees for the John Ogonowski Award which is given by the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation.
The annual award is given to a Farm Bureau member who has shown distinguished service to the organization, to agriculture, and to the community as a whole.
The MFBF established the award in 2001 as a memorial to longtime MFBF member Ogonowski, who was the pilot of American Airlines Flight 11 that crashed into the World Trade Center.
The state winner will be announced at the Massachusetts Farm Bureau's annual meeting on Thursday, Dec. 3.
Gedney Farm named top farm wedding venue
Gedney Farm has been selected as one of the 11 most "Stunning Farm Wedding Venues Across the Country" by Vogue Magazine. The results are published in Vogue's November issue.
The article notes, "Gedney Farm brings a bit of Europe to the Northeast as it was buult as the turn-of-the-century and modeled after the Normandy-style barns of 19th century France."
The barns are encircled by 37 acres of pastures. Sixteen rooms are house in the former dairy barn for guests looking to stay for the night on-site. The barns were built at the turn of the 20th century to house Percheron stallions and jersey cattle. They were modeled after 19th century barns in Normandy, France.
Gedney Farm is located at 34 Hartsville-New Marlborough Road.
The venues also hosts private dinner parties.
RMI acquires North Carolina distribution firm
Ray Murray Inc., a Lee-based gas equipment distributor, has purchased Best & Langston Inc., a hearth, heating and leisure distributor based in Goldsboro, N.C.
The addition makes RMI one of the largest wholesale distributors of hearth, grill, propane and compressed gas equipment in the U.S.
RMI now has over 80 employees, including 17 field sales professionals across 25 states.
The company operates facilities in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Michigan and North Carolina.
