State to begin new year with gas prices below $2

The state of Massachusetts will begin 2016 with gas prices below the $2 mark, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA's survey of state gas prices Monday found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $1.98 per gallon, two cents less than last week.

Prices have fallen 10 cents during the last month. A year ago at this time the average price in Massachusetts was 48 cents higher at $2.46.

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 56 cents from a low of $1.83 to a high of $2.39.

La Pace opens temporary pop-up store on Church Street

La Pace, a long standing luxury bedding and bath accessory store, has opened a pop-up shop in Lenox that will stay open through Jan. 8.

The pop-up store is located at 65 Church St., behind the Church Street Cafe. It will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Sundays when it will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

IRS : April 2016 filing date is pushed back in Mass.

The Internal Revenue Service will begin accepting electronic tax returns for on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

The filing deadline to submit 2015 tax returns in Massachusetts will be Tuesday, April 19 instead of the traditional April 15.

The date has been pushed back because Washington D.C. will celebrate Emancipation Day on April 15 and Monday, April 18 is Patriots Day in Massachusetts.

The filing deadline for those who live everywhere except Massachusetts and Maine will be Monday, April 18. Although the IRS will begin accepting returns on Jan. 19 any tax software companies will begin accepting tax returns earlier.
