Mitchell receives engineering award
Beth A. Mitchell, the director of engineering for General Dynamics Mission Systems in Pittsfield, has been honored by the Society of Women Engineers for having an impact on advancing engineering as a career for women.
The 2016 SWE Advocating Women in Engineering Award honors individuals who have demonstrated professional excellence in their chosen science technology and math (STEM) fields. Mitchell will receive her award at SWE's annual conference on Friday, Oct. 28 in Philadelphia.
Mitchell began her career at General Electric Defense Systems as an intern in 1984, joined GE full-time two years later, and has held various positions in the 21 years since General Dynamics took over that business from GE.
She currently leads over 1,600 engineers developing mission critical maritime systems and solutions for U.S. military and government customers at General Dynamics. Mitchell is also a former board member of the Pittsfield Economic Development Authority.
CHP names chief medical officer for patient network
Dr. Everett Lamm has been named chief medical officer for Community Health Programs. He will also practice pediatrics and adolescent medicine in CHP's Great Barrington office.
Lamm succeeds Dr. Thomas Irwin, who has served as interim chief medical officer for several months during CHP's nationwide search for a permanent chief medical officer.
Lamm is a board certified pediatrician who practiced community pediatrics on New Hampshire's seacoast for 14 years before relocating to the Berkshires. He was voted top doctor in pediatrics for five years by the readers of New Hampshire Magazine.
Lamm holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania, and earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He has served the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services as a legislative advocate, educator and speaker.
