Salisbury Bank employee named top mortgage pro

Spring Burke, vice president and mortgage advisor for Salisbury Bank, was named a top mortgage professional in 2016 in the Northeast Mortgage Edition of Top Agent Magazine. She was featured as the cover story in the publication's March issue.

Burke has been in the banking industry since the age of 15 as part of a work-study program at her school. Her official career was launched in 2001 at Canaan National Bank, which was acquired by Salisbury Bank in 2004.

She is a recipient of the prestigious Five-Star Top Mortgage Professional Award for the fourth straight year.

Hunter joins Berkshire Museum Board of Trustees

Joan B. Hunter has joined the Berkshire Museum Board of Trustees as its newest member.

A Pittsfield native who lives in Williamstown, Hunter is a former special education teacher in the Pittsfield Public Schools who has been a member of the board of directors of Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival since 2001. She also chaired the Jacob's Pillow board from 2009-14.

While raising a family, Hunter and her husband, James, owned and operated the House of Walsh in Williamstown.

Employer confidence essentially flat in April

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts' Business Confidence Index essentially remained flat in April, dropping 0.3 points to fall to 56.2.

The reading remains 2.9 points below confidence levels registered a year ago, but still well above the 50 mark that denotes an overall positive economic outlook. The U.S. economy grew at its weakest pace in two years during the first quarter.
