Sondrini-Cooper honored by ABH for peer leadership

Colleen Sondrini-Cooper, the recovery services coordinator at the Brien Center, has received the Moe Armstrong Award for Peer Leadership from the Association of Behavioral Health.

The award was given in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the development and strengthening of the role of consumers in addiction treatment services.

The ABH is a statewide organization representing over 80 community-based behavioral healthcare provider organizations.

Sondrini-Cooper and the other winners of ABH's 2015 Recognition Awards were honored at a ceremony at the Westin Hotel in Waltham.

Schumacher Center hosting talk on Cuban economics

Cuban author Rafael Hernandez will speak on "Cuba in Changing Times", a discussion hosted by the Schumacher Center for a New Economics on Sunday at the John Dewey Academy at Searles Castle, 389 Main St.

The doors open at 7 p.m., and the discussion begins at 7:30. Tickets are $5 or five BerkShares (BerkShares are preferred). They can be purchased at the door. Due to limited seating, pre-registration is required.

Porchlight receives federal five-star rating

Porchlight VNA/Home Care has been given a five star rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

It is the only Western Massachusetts agency given elite status by the federal government. Porchlight celebrated by raising banners at both of its offices in Chicopee and Lee. As a five star agency, Porchlight performed better than 99.1 percent of its peers.
