Business Briefs: State gas prices at lowest point in seven years

State gas prices hit lowest point in seven years

State gas prices have fallen for the ninth consecutive week, and are now at their lowest level since January 2009, according to AA Northeast.

AAA's survey of state gas prices on Monday found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $1.77 per gallon, four cents lower than last week.

Last year at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was 40 cents higher at $2.17.

"The strong global and domsetic supply of crude oil and gasoline continues to keep prices low at the pump," saud AAA Northeast spokeswoman Mark Maguire.

"Last year at this time prices had started to rise due to oil refineries slowing production."

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey is 33 cents from a low of $1.61 to a high of $1.94.
