Sumner receives Tender Tributes Caregiver honors

Kathleen Sumner of Mount Carmel Center has been selected by Porchlight VNA/Home Care as the Tender Tributes Caregiver of 2016 for Berkshire County.

Porchlight Home Care/VNA CEO Holly Chaffee created the award for Berkshire County in 2014 to reward the tremendous, vital efforts of caregivers such as home health aides, certified nursing assistants, and companions, in helping people in the health care industry despite little recognitions.

The other Berkshire County nominees included: Rabakka Battaini of At Home With Berkshire Place; Alice Boetang of Kindred Laurel Lake Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center; Norman Breault of At Home With Berkshire Place; Patricia Meader of Berkshire Place; and Jessica Morgan of Home Care Services of Massachusetts.

Other Berkshire County nominees were: Irma Rivas of Springside Rehab and Skilled Care Center; Nancy Rowley of Kindred Laurel Lake Assisted Living; Sam Sayers of Porchlight /VNA Home Care; Charlene Tatro of Sweetwood of Williamstown; and Wendy Walks of Craneville Place in Dalton.


Foreclosure petitions decrease in Berkshires in April

The number of foreclosure petitions in Berkshire County dropped slightly in April as 14 were filed compared to 19 in April 2015, a decrease of 26 percent, according to the Warren Group of Boston, which tracks state real estate transactions.

Year-to-date, foreclosure petitions have increased 31 percent in the Berkshires, as 80 have been filed this year compared to 61 in 2015.

Statewide, foreclosure petitions increased 16.6 percent compared to April 2015. The number of foreclosure auction notices filed in Massachusetts jumped 71.3 percent compared with April 2015. In the Berkshires, foreclosure auctions jumped 38 percent from last April.
