Canaan, N.Y.: Exhibit recognizes LGBT families

"Love Makes a Family: Portraits of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People and Their Families" opens Saturday, Jan. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sanctuary Art Gallery at the Canaan Congregational Church, which recently became an Open and Affirming congregation.

The touring photo-text display created by the award-winning Family Diversity Projects of Amherst, Mass., will be featured at the Sanctuary Art Gallery from Jan. 11 through Feb. 11.

Admission is free and light refreshments will be served at the opening reception.

Photographs by Gigi Kaeser depict a variety of LGBTQ people and their families of all races in familiar family settings. The photos are accompanied by text edited by Peggy Gillespie from interviews she conducted with each family member.

The church is located at the corner of State Route 295 and County Route 5.
