Car catches fire after hitting deer in Windsor

WINDSOR -- A woman sustained no injuries after her car caught fire after hitting a deer, according to Windsor Police Chief Peter Pyskaty.

It happened about a mile into Windsor around 8:30 p.m., when Goshen resident Jennifer Williams hit a deer along Route 9, Pyskaty said. A car in front of her managed to swerve around it, he said.

After the deer flew into the air before landing back onto the hood, Williams turned off the car and got out, Pyskaty said. He said that the hood of the car started to smoke and was fully engulfed in flames by the time the first fire crew arrived at the scene.

"Something under the hood must have shorted out," he said.

Williams was OK after the accident, according to Pyskaty.
