Cellphone ban would do harm
In response to the August 31 letter by Jeff Hunt, I fail to see any problem with students using a cellphone between classes. It’s a fairly harmless way to pass the time. Take it away, and do you really think students are going to be reading a textbook in the hallway? A problem with distracted students isn’t going to be solved by taking away one of the distractions.
Completely blocking signal also has a bunch of drawbacks, mainly preventing faculty and staff from using a cellphone. It also could be disastrous in an emergency. In short, blocking cellphones is a huge overreaction.
