Chatham, N.Y.: Scholarship open to teen musicians

Teenage musicians applying to this year's Uel Wade Music Scholarship are urged to meet the April 15 deadline for the written portion of the application.

The scholarship is open to high-school instrumentalists and singers (not just seniors) from four counties: Columbia, Greene and Rensselaer in New York, and Berkshire in Massachusetts.

Cash awards to individual winners, which vary from year to year, usually range from $2,000 to $5,000. Distribution of available funds is decided by the judges.

There is no entry fee. For the concert/competition, musicians perform before a panel of judges and a live audience at 3 p.m. May 22 at the Spencertown Academy

Early applicants have a chance for some Wade-feedback before judges get their applications. Musicians will find complete guidelines and help with analysis at Click on "How to Apply." A preliminary audition will be arranged by telephone.
