Clary's 7 RBI lead Taconic baseball past St. Joe
PITTSFIELD -- Mitch Clary's 4-for-4 performance at the plate helped Taconic's baseball team finish a busy week in a big way Friday.
Clary drove in seven runs in an 18-3, five inning win over St. Joseph. He had an RBI double in the first, a two-run triple in the second, a two-run double in the third and a two-run single in the fourth.
"There wasn't one ball he didn't hit hard today," Taconic coach Kevin Stannard said. "He was just right on. [Pitchers Jake] Coyne and [Nate] Stump both had fastball-curveball, and he tattooed both of ‘em."
Freshman Jake McNeice earned his second varsity win, scattering three runs on seven singles while striking out seven Crusaders.
"The nice thing is McNeice ... came back on short rest because Joey Dewey's nursing a sore shoulder right now," Stannard said. "He gutted out five innings and got his second win in a week."
Dewey, who visited the doctor yesterday, was held out of the rotation Friday as a precaution, Stannard said. He could be available for Monday's game against Hoosac Valley.
Steve Witkowski and Josh Berthiaume each drove in three runs for the Braves (11-6, 7-4), who went 3-2 this week. Berthiaume had two doubles.

Drury 5, Monument Mountain 1
GREAT BARRINGTON -- Joe Liporace's bases-loaded double in the fourth inning scored two of Drury's three runs that inning, and Tyler Briggs kept Monument's bats relatively quiet for five innings Friday.
Briggs struck out three and walked none. Bobby Kinne's fourth-inning RBI double to score Brandon Perry was all Monument got.
"He kept the ball around the strike zone. We put it in play and they made the plays behind him," Monument coach Tom Hankey said. "We came out a little flat, but that's no excuse. Give them the credit; they played well."
