College Graduates


Tara and Terrence Tuffy of Stamford, Vt., announce the graduation of their daughter, Dr. Erin P. Tuffy, DO, from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine, class of 2016.

Tuffy was the recipient of the Medical Mutual Insurance Company of Maine Scholarship from 2013-2016, and will begin a four year emergency medicine residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Kristen Bossio, daughter of Bob and Karen Bossio of Pittsfield, graduated summa cum laude from Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y., on May 15 with a bachelor of science degree in computer science. She also completed a second major in creative arts.

Bossio was a member and officer of the Siena Stage III theater club and performed in seven shows while at Siena. She is also a member of Upsilon Phi Epsilon, the International Honor Society for Computing and Alpha Kappa Alpha, the Siena College Honor Society.

Bossio is employed by General Dynamics in Pittsfield as a software engineer. She is a 2012 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Marissa Elise Avanzato, daughter of Joseph and Marianne Avanzato of Pittsfield, graduated cum laude from Worcester State University with a bachelor of arts degree in communication and a minor in business administration.

At Worcester State, Avanzato was a member of the varsity softball team, where she helped her team win the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

She was a member of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 MASCAC Spring All-Academic Teams, and was inducted into the Tau Chapter of the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Sigma Alpha.

Avanzato was president of the National Communication Honors Society, Lambda Pi Eta, and an active member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Upon graduation, Avanzato accepted employment at Villanova University as a media relations intern in the Athletic Department.
