College Roundup: MCLA softball sweeps doubleheader


BUZZARDS BAY >> The MCLA softball team swept a doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime, winning game one 21-1 and game two 17-2. Both contests were five innings.

In the opening game, the Trailblazers (11-13) scored 10 runs in the first inning. Overall, Michaela DiNicola, Chelsea Coleman and Sam Boyle each finished with four RBI for MCLA.

Katelyn Henault picked up the win for the Trailblazers. For Mass. Maritime (2-16), Brooke Miles recorded a hit and an RBI.

In the second half of the twin bill, MCLA scored eight runs in the first inning. Henault went the distance, allowing one hit and no earned runs over five innings.

Katie Berghela went 2 for 3 with five RBI and two runs scored for the Trailblazers while Coleman was 3 for 3 with four RBI.

Rachel Gardner registered a hit and scored for Mass. Maritime.


BUZZARDS BAY >> Mass. Maritime defeated MCLA baseball 11-2 and 9-0 en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Trailblazers.

William Keane was 3 for 4 with three RBI for Mass. Maritime (15-10) in the first game while Logan Sullo and Cobie Gerbis each had three hits and two RBI.

For MCLA (3-18), Nate Alibozek had an RBI.

In game two, Kevin Kwedor picked up the win for Mass. Maritime. He struck out seven and walked one while allowing one hit over six innings.

Joe Dimassimo had the lone hit for MCLA.
