College Roundup: MCLA women's lacrosse picks up first win of year
NORTH ADAMS >> The MCLA women's lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the season when it defeated Mitchell by a score of 14-6.
Trailing 5-4 at halftime, the Trailblazers (1-3) outscored Mitchell 10-1 in the second half. Overall, Taylor Brewer scored four times for MCLA.
Also registering hat tricks for the Trailblazers were Mackenzie Cutler, Natalie Caney and Rachel Green. Amanda Rowan scored three times for Mitchell (1-2).
MCLA returns to action on Thurdsay when it faces Johnson State on the road.
BATES 11, WILLIAMS MEN 8
LEWISTON, MAINE >> Clarke Jones and Andrew Melvin each scored twice and added an assist for Bates in the team's home victory over Williams.
Kyle Weber also recorded two goals for Bates (7-1, 3-1 NESCAC) while Michael Fahey and Thomas Fowler each scored twice for the Ephs (3-3, 2-2 NESCAC).
Williams is back in action on Wednesday when it plays at at Colorado College.
BATES 14, WILLIAMS WOMEN 5
WILLIAMSTOWN >> Moriah Greenstein scored five goals and added an assist for Bates in its win over the Ephs.
Drew Barry added a hat trick for Bates (7-1, 3-1 NESCAC) while Hannah Jeffrey recorded 10 saves.
For Williams (4-4, 2-2 NESCAC), Anne Rehfuss scored and had an assist.
The Ephs return to action on April 6 at Tufts.
CLERMONT, FLA. >> The Ephs (8-3) lost both games of a doubleheader as University of Chicago pulled out an 8-6 victory followed by a 7-2 win for Luther College.
In the first game, Chicago (7-1) scored three runs in the top of the seventh en route to victory. Carly Schulz produced a sacrifice fly, scoring Kristin Lopez to give Chicago a 7-6 lead.
Kathleen Kohm went 3 for 4 with two RBI for Chicago while Erica Li was 5 for 5 with two runs for Williams. Mackenzie Murphy and Melissa Cendejas each had three hits for the Ephs.
In the second game, Samantha Bratland allowed four hits and two runs in a complete-game effort, striking out eight and walking two as Luther (18-1) outlasted Williams.
Lindsey Uphoff registered two hits and two RBI for Williams while Kacey Cramer recorded a hit and scored a run for the Ephs.
Williams is back in action on Tuesday, when it returns from Florida to take on Wheaton in a road doubleheader.
MCLA SWEPT IN DOUBLHEADER
QUINCY >> The Trailblazers (3-8) fell in both games of a doubleheader against Eastern Nazarene (11-6). The final scores were 4-1 and 4-3.
In the first game, Brent Houle allowed three hits and one run while pitching a complete game for Eastern Nazarene. He struck out five and walked one.
Nick Disanti provided the only RBI of the game for MCLA.
In the second game, Nick Story recorded two RBI for Eastern Nazarene while Joe Dimassimo registered two hits and two RBI for the Trailblazers.
MCLA returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Southern Vermont.
