Colleges: Williams women's basketball stays perfect with win over Springfield


SPRINGFIELD — The Williams women's basketball team stayed unbeaten on Tuesday with a 57-47 win at Springfield College.

The Ephs moved to 3-0 with the win. Williams led by just two at halftime and one going into the fourth before a 16-7 final frame gave the Ephs enough cushion.

Devon Caveney did most of the heavy lifting for Williams, pouring in 25 points and adding six rebounds and four steals.

Amanni Fernandez and Lexi Jones also topped double figures by scoring 11 points each. Oge Uwanaka was a force on the glass, grabbing 13 rebounds in the win.

For Springfield, Emily Gins and Lexi Windwer each had 11 points.

Williams is off for the rest of the month and will resume play on Dec. 1 at Skidmore.


In Leicester, the MCLA women's basketball team doubled-up Becker in an 81-38 win that pushed the Trailblazers back above .500 for the season.

Kayla Hotaling led the way for MCLA with 20 points and eight rebounds, Brayleigh Hanlon added 13 points and six rebounds and Courtney Pingelski also cracked double figures with 11 points while also adding five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Ashley Clawson finished with eight points and eight assists.

MCLA opened up a seven-point lead after a quarter, then took control for good by holding Becker to six points in both the second and third quarters.

Becker's Gabrielle Gallo and Adrianna Dowdy each had 12 points in the loss.

MCLA is now 3-2 on the year and the team returns to the hardwood on Nov. 30 at Lasell.
