Crane & Co. to cut 55 jobs in stationery division

Wednesday August 15, 2012

DALTON - Crane & Co. plans to eliminate 55 jobs from its stationery division over the next few months, as part of a consolidation plan to rejuvenate that part of the company's paper-making operation, Crane officials announced Wednesday.

In a prepared statement, Crane noted the pending layoffs will gradually take effect through December until the consolidation is complete in early 2013.

Crane will be offering voluntary severance packages or other positions within Crane to those likely affected by the downsizing.

According to company officials, Crane has already moved its marketing and customer relations personnel from the Downing Industrial Park in Pittsfield to its stationary operations in the Hardman Industrial Park in North Adams. The rest of the consolidation will involve the stationery distribution at Downing and stationery manufacturing in Dalton, which is also being relocated to North Adams.
