Customer thwarts robbery at East Street Video
PITTSFIELD — A robbery at a local variety store was thwarted Wednesday when a customer subdued the suspect as she was trying to leave.
Ivy Rogers, 32, of Pittsfield, walked into East Street Video on Lyman Street shortly before 8:45 p.m. and approached the clerk, slammed her hand on the counter, and demanded all of the money in the register, according to Pittsfield Police. She was wearing a mask and multiple layers of clothing at the time.
After taking money from the register, Rogers tried to flee, but she was confronted by a male patron and a struggle ensued.
When police arrived, the man was holding Rogers on the ground, and cash was scattered in front of her.
Rogers pleaded not guilty in Central Berkshire District Court on Thursday to one count of unarmed robbery.
She was ordered held on $3,500 bail and ordered to return to court Sept. 15.
