DA: Man charged with strangling estranged wife
SALEM, MASS. >> Prosecutors say a man who turned himself into Salem police will be arraigned for the murder of his estranged wife.
The Essex District Attorney's office said in a brief statement that Douglas Steeves is accused of strangling the 48-year-old woman, whose name was not immediately released.
The statement said Steeves, who is believed to be homeless, went to Salem police at about 3:40 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers then went to the home of the woman, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The 50-year-old Steeves is due in court later Tuesday.
