Dalton: Multimedia presentation of poet laureate's works

The Dalton Free Public Library is hosting a free multimedia presentation of selected works of William Jay Smith (1918-2015), America's 19th poet laureate, at 6 p.m. Monday, March 28.

Smith collaborated with composer Alice Spatz and filmmaker Eric Shepherd during the last years of his life to create a mixed media program of five of his poems.

The program consists of a film of Smith reading and discussing the five poems combined with newly composed music by Spatz. Shepherd and Spatz will also discuss the creative processes that led to this collaboration.

Smith lived in Cummington for many years. Spatz and Shepherd are both Berkshire artists.

This project has received support from Local Cultural Councils of Cummington, Dalton, Northern Berkshire, Pittsfield, and Worthington, as well as grants from the Friends of the Berkshire Atheneum and Kimball Farms.

The library is located at 462 Main St. Information: 413-684-6112.
