Dalton: Select Board to consider fate of vacant school

The Select Board will consider public comments on the "disposition" of the former Nessacus Regional Middle School, commonly known as Old Dalton High, at 6 p.m. Monday, March 14, at the Dalton Senior Center.

Town Manager Ken Walto has proposed an Annual Town Meeting article that would allow the Select Board to sell the building without conditions or restrictions. The board has opted to hold a public hearing prior to agreeing to place it on the warrant.

While some in the neighborhood have called for demolition of the structure, that option is estimated to cost a minimum of $700,000 and up to $1.3 million including engineering and disposal of materials.
