Dewey one-hits Drury as Taconic gets a baseball win

PITTSFIELD -- Joey Dewey tossed a one-hitter and Taconic racked up 11 hits to defeat Drury 15-0 in a mercy rule-shortened contest.

"Their first batter got a hit and bam! That was it," said Taconic coach Kevin Stannard. "Joey pitched real well."

Kevin Squires and Josh Berthiaume each had two hits and two RBI for the Braves.

PITTSFIELD -- James Allentuck's one-hitter was the difference in this game for Monument.

"The curveball wasn't consistent, but I found it when I needed to," said Allentuck, who added that his two-seam and four-seam fastballs worked best Friday. "Last time I went out against these guys, I got shelled. To come back like this ... really gave me a confidence boost."

The Spartans scored an unearned run in the first, and then Allentuck helped himself with a two-run single in the second.

"I counted six line outs and seven fly outs that they got to," said the Generals' Bob Moynihan. "We hit the ball, just right at people."

Hoosac 7, Everett 6

CHESHIRE -- The Hurricanes jumped out to an early lead and then had to hold on to beat visiting Mount Everett.

"It was a little bit of a scramble," said Hoosac coach Bob Rivard. "It seems like we struggle when we play these guys."

Reliever Justin Nichols hit Aaron Martin to lead off the top of the seventh inning, and a ground out by Erik Derwitsch moved Martin to second. Losing pitcher John Ormsbee singled Martin home, making it 7-6. Ormsbee was picked off first and Nichols struck out the final batter for the win.

Matt Braman, Matt Koperniak and Nichols had two hits each for Hoosac. Sage Angell and Bradley Lupiani had two hits each for Everett.
