Distracted driver rear-ends Lee school bus

LEE — A teen driver distracted by her cellphone has been cited for rear-ending a school bus Friday afternoon.

Lee police say no one was hurt when the young woman from Lenox — police aren't identifying her because she is under 18 — rammed the back of the bus stopped at the intersection of East Street and Pine Ridge Drive with yellow lights flashing, according to Police Chief Jeff Roosa. The collision took place at around 2:50 p.m.

The middle school students were taken off the bus, owned and operated by Dufour Inc. of Hinsdale. The children either got a ride home from parents who were notified and came to the scene or were put on another school bus and transported home.

The Volkswagen Jetta was totaled, Roosa said, and the driver was issued a written warning.
