Driver pulled from vehicle partially submerged in Williams River

WEST STOCKBRIDGE -- A Berkshire-area man escaped serious injury after crashing his car into the Williams River, late Monday afternoon.

Around 5:15 p.m., a passerby called 911 to report a motorist, who West Stockbridge police didn't immediately identify, was traveling northbound on Route 41 near Denny's Garage. According to police, the driver lost control of his vehicle and flipped it over into shallow water along the river embankment.

Rescuers pulled the driver from the partially submerged car and he was taken to Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
