Drury High School looking for new principal as North Adams Public Schools pursues administrative shake-up

NORTH ADAMS — Drury High School is in the market for a principal.

Principal Amy Meehan will take the reins at Colegrove Park Elementary School as part of an administrative shift over the summer at North Adams Public Schools.

Former Colegrove Principal Shelley Fachini has left her post to become the new coordinator of special education for early childhood.

The district is now advertising for a one-year interim principal at Drury.

Fachini was approved by an interview committee after applying for the special ed. post, according to Superintendent Barbara Malkas. In addition to her experience as an elementary school principal, Fachini also had a background in special education and kindergarten readiness.

After Fachini took the special education post, Meehan eyed the vacant position at Colegrove and was selected by an interviewing committee.

"People at different points in their career are looking to try something new, maybe take on a challenge," Malkas said.

Malkas added that she was pleased the district had the skillset internally to take on these positions.

"My goal as principal of Colegrove Park is to foster a collaborative, innovative, technology-rich, student-centered learning environment complemented by varied instructional methodologies to meet the needs of our learners," Meehan wrote in a letter posted to the school's website.

Applications for the interim principal job at Drury must be submitted by Aug. 26, according to the posting. It will pay between $85,000 and $92,000 annually and the listed start date is Aug. 29.
