Earth Day speaker to discuss climate change, emissions

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Michael Klare, Five College Professor of Peace and World Security Studies and director of the Five College Program in Peace and World Security Studies at Hampshire College, will give the Earth Day keynote address at Williams College on Tuesday, April 22.

The talk will take place at 7:30 p. m. in the Paresky Center auditorium and is free and open to the public.

Klare will talk about climage change and emissions and how colleges can lead this effort. He has written 14 books and his work has been published in the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, the New York Times, Scientific American, Foreign Affairs and Technology Review.

Klare is currently the defense correspondent for The Nation magazine. He also serves on the boards of directors of Human Rights Watch and the Arms Control Association. His work focuses on U. S. defense policy, the arms trade, Peak oil, and world security affairs. Klare teaches courses on resource politics and contemporary conflict and international affairs.

The event is sponsored by the Thursday Night Group and the Center for Environmental Studies.
