Easter pets last many more years

Friday March 29, 2013

I am with letter writer Jessica Willis ("Baby chicks aren’t props," March 25) 100 percent. What right does Carr Hardware have to sell chicks? They are a store that sells tools, paint and so on. It is not a poultry farm.

Every Easter people buy chicks and even rabbits for their children as gifts. Any pet that is adopted to should be given a loving, responsible home. Children get easily bored with a new addition to the family and poor animal ends up in the garage or barn or neglected. This is unfair, if not cruel.

So, this Easter holiday, if anyone plans to adopt an animal please think twice. The animal depends on you to take care of it for many years. It is a big responsibility. Happy Easter.
