Education notes from the Berkshires
"Hairspray Jr." auditions: Barrington Stage Company's Youth Theatre seeks actors between the ages of 13-19 for roles in its summer 2014 production of "Hairspray Jr.," to be presented July 23 through Aug. 10 at Berkshire Museum.
Those auditioning should bring a headshot or labeled photo and prepare 16 bars of two contrasting songs (upbeat and ballad) from two contemporary musicals of your choice. Bring sheet music in the appropriate key and come dressed to move. An accompanist will be provided for auditions. All roles are available. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition. A complete breakdown and description of the cast list will be posted on BSC's website barringtonstageco.org.
Auditions, by appointment only, will be held at Barrington Stage's Boyd-Quinson Mainstage, 30 Union St., on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, 4 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 3 and 3 to 5. Callbacks are March 1 and 2. To schedule an audition: Brittany Bonnell at email@example.com.
Child volunteers to be recognized: Nominations for the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program, for children 6 to 18, will be accepted through March 14 at kohlskids.com. Nominators must be 21 years or older. Through the program, Kohl's will award more than 2,300 young volunteers nearly $400,000 in scholarships and prizes to reward kids who have made a positive impact on their communities. 3-D fabricated artwork: Very Interesting Lecture Series: "Digitally" fabricated artwork on 3D printing machines presented by Philip Webster, tonight at 7, at the Berkshire Athenaeum, 1 Wendell Ave., Pittsfield. Sponsored by the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum. Information: (413) 499 9480.
A karaoke night for middle school students will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the Boys & Girls Club of Pittsfield, 16 Melville St. Doors open at 6 p.m. $5 for members, $8 for non members. Westfield State University will host a "Westfield on the Go" information session from 5 to 6 p.m. today at Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield.
Interested individuals will be able to learn more about the undergraduate, graduate, online, and non-credit programs the DGCE offers, as well as the application processes for these programs.
