Egremont home sells for $4.6 million
EGREMONT -- A residential property on 15 acres on Baldwin Hill Road has been sold for $4.6 million, according to documents on file at the Southern Berkshire Registry of Deeds in Great Barrington.
It was sold by Eliot and June Tatelman and purchased by Peter and Hillary Rathjens of Sudbury, according to documents filed at the registry.
Eliot Tatelman is the president and CEO of Jordan's Furniture, the retailer with locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, and a major advertiser for the Boston Red Sox. Tatelman is perhaps best-known for being the TV commercial pitchman for Jordan's Furniture.
The sale was finalized Monday, according to Stephen Schoenfeld, of Barnbrook Realty in Great Barrington, who sold the property with his real estate partner Joanna Swydz.
The property had been offered for $5 million and was on the market for less than a year, Schoenfeld said.
It is the largest Berkshire County property transaction this year, slightly higher than the $4.1 million sale of Mepal Manor on Route 57 in New Marlborough.
The largest residential property transaction in the Berkshires is believed to be the $9.8 million sale of the historic Elm Court estate in Stockbridge in July 2012. Residential property transactions of $7 million occurred in Richmond and Stockbridge in 2008 and 2007, respectively, according to Eagle files.
According to Schoenfeld, the property on Baldwin Hill Road contains a house, a guest house, a full gymnasium, and a tennis court.
