El Salvadoran man pleads not guilty to assault on 6-year-old

PITTSFIELD -- An El Salvadoran man is being held on $50,000 bail after pleading not guilty on Tuesday in Berkshire Superior Court to a charge of raping of a 6-year-old girl.

Erick Ruiz-Trujillo, 30, who resides in Pittsfield, is facing a single count of rape of a child with force. The alleged assault occurred in Pittsfield between Nov. 3 and 4. He was arrested by the Pittsfield Police earlier this month and has been held in jail since.

According to Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Marianne Shelvey, the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has filed a detainer on Ruiz-Trujillo as well, meaning they would eventually be seeking to take custody of him for deportation proceedings.

On Tuesday, Ruiz-Trujillo appeared with his attorney, Nathaniel K. Green, and a Spanish language interpreter and agreed to be held on $50,000 bail, the same amount he was held on in district court before being indicted.

Green will likely be arguing to lower his client's bail at some point.

A restraining order has been filed in the case, which aims to prevent Ruiz-Trujillo from going near the child.

A Dec. 5 status hearing has been scheduled at which time further court dates will be agreed upon.
