Elderly woman locked in trunk describes her ordeal

Sunday March 24, 2013

LINCOLN, Del. (AP) -- A woman who police say was forced into the trunk of her car and driven around for nearly two days says she was "terrified" and prayed she'd make it out.

Margaret E. Smith says two teenage girls asked her for a ride last Monday. She says they later exited the car, demanded her keys and pushed her into the trunk.

The 89-year-old Lincoln woman recounted her ordeal to the News Journal of Wilmington (http://delonline.us/14mQKtU ) from the hospital.

She says she was given no food, water or medicine.

Police say the two girls met up with other teenagers and rented a motel room while leaving Smith in the trunk. Smith was later released at a cemetery.

Troopers later stopped the stolen car, and the teenagers were taken to a detention center.
