Election today for Lanesborough Selectman
LANESBOROUGH -- Voters head to the polls today to fill a vacancy on the Board of Selectmen.
The special election is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. in the community room at Town Hall, 83 North Main St.
Barbara Davis-Hassan and Henry G. Sayers Jr. are vying to succeed Robert Barton, who resigned from the board June 30. Barton left after winning a seat on the Lanesborough School Committee during the annual town election June 25.
Today's winner will serve the remaining 8 1/2 months of his three-year term as a selectman, which expires at the end of June 2014.
Since Barton's resignation, the three-member board has functioned as two, chairman John Goerlach and newcomer Robert Ericson. Ericson succeeded veteran selectmen William Prendergast, who didn't seek re-election, by winning a full-three-year term during the regularly scheduled town election.
