Elizabeth Warren releases 2Q money totals

Monday July 9, 2012

BOSTON (AP) -- Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren has raised more than $8.6 million in the second quarter of 2012.

Her campaign said in a statement Monday that the second-quarter fundraising totals were the most successful to date and exceeded first quarter amounts by $1.7 million.

Warren, a Harvard Law School professor, is challenging Republican Sen. Scott Brown in November.

The campaign says more than 80 percent of the donations during the second quarter were $50 or less. A full breakdown of the fundraising is not expected until later in the month.

During the three-month period from April to June, Warren's campaign faced questions about her previous, undocumented claims of Native American heritage.

The Massachusetts Senate race was the most expensive in the country through the first quarter of the year.
