Evidence of 8 suspicious fires found in Maynard building

MAYNARD >> An investigation has been launched after evidence of eight small fires was found by firefighters inside a Massachusetts office building over the weekend.

Firefighters were dispatched to the Mill & Main campus along state Route 62 in Maynard for reports of a fire around 6:55 p.m. Sunday. The property is a mixed-use complex housing offices, galleries and boutiques.

Fire Chief Anthony Stowers said Monday that evidence of eight suspicious fires was found inside offices and stairwells of Building 2. A K-9 determined that an accelerant may have been used to ignite the fires.

The individual blazes died out on their own and the building's sprinkler system wasn't triggered. Damage to the structure was minimal.

State police's fire and explosion investigation section is investigating along with Maynard fire and police officials.
